Understanding Substance Use

Substance Use Prevention and Treatment Resources

Empowering our island communities with the knowledge and resources to combat substance use and promote healthier lifestyles.

Substance use affects not only individuals but also families and entire communities. It can lead to a range of health issues, social problems, and economic burdens.

Understanding the impact of substance use is crucial for implementing effective prevention and treatment strategies. By addressing substance use, we can improve the overall well-being of our communities, reduce healthcare costs, and create a safer, healthier environment for everyone.

Prevention and treatment are key components in combating substance use, and it is essential to provide accessible resources and support for those in need.

Our Services

Substance Use Prevention Programs

Prevention programs are designed to educate individuals and communities about the risks of substance use and provide strategies to avoid it. These programs include school-based education, community workshops, and public awareness campaigns.

Treatment and Rehabilitation Services

The communities of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket have a range of treatment options for individuals struggling with substance use, including outpatient counseling and support groups.  Patients needing inpatient rehabilitation will be refered to off-island programs.

Recovery is a lifelong journey, and we provide ongoing support to help individuals maintain sobriety and rebuild their lives. Our resources include peer support groups, recovery coaching, and access to community services.

Martha’s Vineyard Substance Use Disorder Coalition

The mission of the Martha’s Vineyard Substance Use Disorder Coalition is to reduce stigma, raise awareness and bridge service gaps. The SUD Coalition accomplishes this through education, prevention, treatment and recovery initiatives.

Red House Peer Recovery Support Center

The Red House peer recovery support center is a peer-to-peer safe place for those seeking tools and resources to help with their addictions, both substance and behavioral.

It is a place that encourages and supports all paths of recovery and aims to further recovery growth, make new connections, rebuild trust, and build recovery capital or “global health” – emotional, mental, professional, environmental, spiritual, social and physical well-being.
